Listed here are a collection of my web projects.
Finance Tracking System (unnamed, still in progress)
Description: In a quest to learn about Python and the Django framework, I came up with this project to track my personal finances. Tired of using spreadsheets, I tried several tracking softwares like GNUCash, but none really did what I wanted them to do. As a result, I decided to make my own, thereby learning Python and Django along the way. My intended features include reports, graphs and predictive expenses. The last one will involve designing an algorithm that will make an attempt to predict future expenses. I don't know how well that will work, so it may or may not end up in the final product.
Keystone Avian Tracking System
Description: A project I initiated through discussion with a former lecturer of mine, Greg Baker. His wife required some kind of electronic way of keeping track of scientific experimental data on birds. It was a side project I undertook and took several months to complete from requirements gathering to completion of codebase. Revisions to documentation will be finished soon. The goal is to give a centralized web interface for several scientists in one lab who share a group of birds to keep track of what is done to which bird. Reports can then be generated through this interface based on treatments, ownership, experiments, lineage etc. It is a useful tool and is more efficient than the current spreadsheet-based method employed by my customer.
This project was presented at the 2006 SFU Employer Open House. The poster used there can be downloaded here.
This doesn't have much to do with anything, but it's funny and related to development.
