Hey hockey media pundits…

You still want to say the All-Star Game is serious? Check this out. Now take your collective heads out of Bettman’s ass and all of you go fuck off. This is what happens when you diss Rory and go against the will of the fans. Guess what, THEY RESPOND YOU IDIOTS.
Can we get rid of the All-Star Game already?

Anyone have a spare $150,000?

This item is for those people who have money to burn and also a large property to store lots of not quite useful but cool stuff.  I think it’d awesome to drive around in, but so not worth $150,000.
Out-of-work life has gotten kind of stagnant.  I’ve been busy with household chores, which I think will become second nature (and go a hell of a lot faster) once I live on my own permanently.  I need to get to a pub at some night, even if to just watch a game.  Actually, I should look up the Giants’ schedule and look for a good next game to go to.

Do I radiate incompetence or what?

One of my aunts called today to “check in on me” (read: haven’t burned down the house yet).  That brings the count of people who have called me to about 8.  It hasn’t been 8 phone calls either; more than one of them has called multiple times.  If you didn’t know already, my parents went to Hong Kong for a couple weeks.  With my sister in Ontario for her PhD, I was left alone in the house.

Do I give off an aura of helplessness of some sort? I know they care, but come on.  If I’m to live on my own, I should be able to keep from blowing up my place of residence, right? My dad comes home tomorrow, so maybe these two weeks of living by myself will remove any doubts (God willing).  Was it like this for anyone else now living outside of the parents’ domicile?

Maybe this stems from my childhood, since I was known for breaking stuff as a kid.  Hell, I managed to break a cow made out of granite.  But hey, the house is standing.  It’s probably not as clean as my mom would make it, but I cleaned.  Nothing odd’s growing in places it shouldn’t.  The plants are probably a little worse for wear, as I did forget to water a few times.  I know that I wouldn’t want to live in a house alone though…way too much to clean.  And yes I did cook, and no, not any microwavable dinners thank you very much.  Microwavable dinners get expensive…and kinda gross.

I have to admit, it’s been kinda nice living on my own schedule for once.  I usually have to stick with the routine my parents go with, because hey, their house.  I suspect this will increase the itch to live on my own.  And also the empty nest syndrome of my parents.  That day’s gonna be a bit awkward.

Okay so they’re not COMPLETELY hideous

The NHL gave a preview on what the new jerseys will look like for the all-star game and the upcoming season.  I was mostly worried about the cut and form of the jersey, followed by the design.  The cut isn’t the stupid form-fitting idea of the Olympics, and it actually hangs quite well off the body.  However, the stupid crap down the sides needs to go away, and I’ll have to reserve judgment until I see the team jerseys instead of something that was designed by friggin’ Willy Wonka on LSD.  The All-Star jerseys were almost always ugly, so I really don’t care about them.

The stupid part? An authentic all-star jersey costs over $400 USD.  Way to reach out to your fans there, NHL.  Compared to current authentic jerseys at around $200 USD.  Hopefully the team jerseys won’t go up that high.  Rumours are that the replicas (which are currently around $110 CDN and the ones I can afford) are going to have heat pressed numbers, leaving the stitching to only authentics.  I’ve seen rumours to the contrary as well, so hopefully the contrary holds true.  Heat pressed numbers look terrible.
The depressing part is although the jerseys don’t seem to be as bad as everyone feared, the expectations were still that low.   It’s pretty bad when you have to rely on “well it’s not as bad as you think” instead of “look at how cool this is.”  The entire marketing department and most of the management needs to be sacked.  Weasels, all of them.

A new Ghostbusters game??!!!11one

Browsing around on the Internets yielded this tantalizing bit of rumourage.  I don’t know what system it’s coming out for, but if it’s the 360, I think I just might buy one.  NHL ‘07 (with similar interface for future NHL games), Dead Rising and now the new Ghostbusters? 360 here I come.  If it’s for the PC, damn straight I’m buying a new system.  I’m curious to see if it could come out for the Wii though.  Direct the proton stream  with the wii-mote and throw the trap with the nunchuk? Oh HELLS yeah.  However, I probably will have to see what reviews are like and try it out first.  Capitalism has destroyed my childhood before.  Looks promising so far though.

Time to crank up some Ray Parker Jr.

You know you’re old when…

…snow brings feelings of annoyance and dread instead of joy.  Stupid snow being stupidly heavy.

Rory’s #3 :(

The NHL All-Star Ballot results came in, Rory ended up #3. I call shenanigans on the NHL. Of course, the NHL managed to get all the marketing for it by doing absolutely nothing for it. It’s pretty bush-league, but that way they keep their “stars” at the All-Star game and deny Rory a chance to play. It’s pretty stupid how so many pundits cried foul about it because the All-Star game should be about the high scoring players. Yes, the same game that made John Garrett and Bob freaking Probert all-stars. Kinda funny how Don Cherry and Wayne Gretzky forgot that little tidbit. Meanwhile, Jonathan Cheechoo is going to be an all-star after having a very ordinary season. Looks like the All-Star Game is back to being a gong show, worthy to be ignored.

Once again the NHL proves it knows jack shit about its fans and what the fans want. They claim to be there for the fans and yet somehow Rory loses all those votes and there’s a sudden “surge” for Niedermeyer and Lidstrom? Look at the numbers per week:

Name Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5
Scott Niedermayer 96,135 60,371 57,474 92,878 51,277
Nicklas Lidstrom 102,584 53,664 56,327 94,981 50,724
Rory Fitzpatrick 113,509 124,229 159,784 58,010 63,335

Look at week 4 in particular.  Not rigged? Yeah sure, NHL.  But of course, the NHL holds all the cards so no one can really question them on it.  I swear, if Naslund is selected as an All-Star, I’m going to shoot something.  And I’m a Canucks fan!

There was another power outage at my house today.  That makes 3 in a week.  One on the 2nd, one of the 5th and one today.  Wind was apparently the culprit, but come on, three in a week? Whatever preventative measures BC Hydro is claiming to take is clearly not working in my neighbourhood.

I love world junior hockey

I had to get up early but that was one of the best, if not the best, world junior hockey game I’ve ever seen.  It sucks that it had to end on a shootout, but the fact that it went seven shooters just heightened the drama.  Short shootouts suck.  But the battles throughout the game, the back and forth…that’s what hockey is all about.  And it sets up Rocky Canada vs Russia for the umpteenth time in a row.  And I have to work.  DAMMIT.  Maybe I can set up a TSN stream on a workstation.
I also recently saw Napoleon Dynamite, which probably makes me one of the last people on the planet to see it.  Result? I really don’t see what was so great about it.  I wanted to punch Napoleon in the face for almost the entire film.  Pedro was the only slightly amusing character.  What am I missing?
